Volunteers from Liberty Savings Bank recently helped paint a home with Manatee County Habitat for Humanity’s Brush with Kindness program. Lauren Fuller, Josie Lamb, and Keri Conner spent their day off working with other volunteers to paint a home in Washington Park as part of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service.
Liberty Savings Bank and Habitat for Humanity take the message of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service to heart: “. Taking place each year on the third Monday in January, the MLK Day of Service is the only federal holiday observed as a national day of service – a "day on, not a day off." The MLK Day of Service is a part of United We Serve, the President's national call to service initiative. It calls for Americans from all walks of life to work together to provide solutions to our most pressing national problems. The MLK Day of Service empowers individuals, strengthens communities, bridges barriers, creates solutions to social problems, and moves us closer to Dr. King's vision of a “Beloved Community."”

Sandra Perrine, Financial Center Manager of the Jacaranda Office, and Lisa Toppin, Financial Center Manager of the Shamrock Office, were on hand for the grand opening. Liberty Savings Bank continues its strong support of South Sarasota County Habitat for Humanity. On Saturday, March 28th volunteers from three Liberty Savings Bank offices assisted with the annual Sweet Home Habitat event. Each year Habitat for Humanity hosts a silent and live auction that helps fund their mission all year long.
Donors were able to bid on items and experiences donated by local businesses. Also, they were able to “bid” on the construction material required to build homes in Sarasota. Everything from yards of concrete to doors and windows were bid on by donors at the Sweet Home Habitat event. The generosity of all the attendees provided the funding necessary to keep up Habitat’s good work in the community.
Liberty Savings Bank volunteers manned the checkout table, totaling successful bids and collecting donations from the many donors. Danielle Bachar, Financial Center Manager at the Square South Financial Center, organized the Liberty volunteers for the event. She was assisted by Sandy Perrine, Financial Center Manager II from the Jacaranda Office, Samantha Martin, Financial Center Supervisor, and Josie Fleming, Customer Service Representative.
Liberty Savings Bank recently continued its commitment to the local community and to Habitat for Humanity. After donating equipment and money earlier this year to help Habitat for Humanity reach its goals, now volunteers from Liberty Savings Bank donated their time to support the Habitat for Humanity South County Women's Build 2014. This year’s build continues a long tradition of Habitat Sarasota working to improve the lives of Sarasota County residents. Since 1985 Habitat Sarasota has built more than 200 homes in Sarasota County, greatly improving the lives of hundreds in the process.
Volunteers learned how to hang sheet rock and completed 90% of the ceilings for this home on Thursday Oct. 9th 2014 along with a skilled team of Habitat volunteers.
Danielle Bachar, Financial Center Manager at the Square South Financial Center, had nothing but praise for Habitat for Humanity, “What Habitat does for the community is admirable; we were thrilled to be a part of this project. What a truly wonderful organization to work hand in hand with!”
